Join Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Edward Blandford, for an overview of how Kairos Power is leading the way to commercializing fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature (FHR) technology with rapid iterative development and vertical integration strategies with tangible progress at our Oak Ridge Reactor Demonstration Campus. Dr. Blandford will also discuss Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s historic role in developing a proof-of-concept for molten salt reactor technology and how their decades of expertise are supporting the deployment of Kairos Power’s commercial fleet.

 

 

Biographical sketch

Dr. Edward Blandford Dr. Edward Blandford is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Kairos Power, where he leads all engineering and technology development for the company’s advanced reactor program. He oversees KP-FHR design and analysis, major hardware demonstrations, internal manufacturing programs, fuel and salt supply infrastructure, construction management, environmental health and safety, engineering operations, and licensing strategy for the company’s future fleet.

Dr. Blandford’s technical leadership has been central to building Kairos Power’s integrated development ecosystem, which combines design, testing, advanced manufacturing, and supply-chain qualification to support the company’s rapid iterative development approach and drive toward cost certainty.

Before co-founding Kairos Power, Dr. Blandford served as an assistant professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of New Mexico. He previously held a Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation and worked at the Electric Power Research Institute as a project manager specializing in steam generator thermal-hydraulics and material degradation management. Dr. Blandford holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He serves on advisory boards for the nuclear engineering programs at the University of New Mexico, Texas A&M University, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Event Details

The UT Resource Center is at 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike between Taco Bell and Applebee's Grill.  Use the entrance at the southwest (back) corner of the building. 

A light lunch (half sandwich, chips, cookie, and a drink) will be available for a $10 donation (cash, check or IOU) starting about 11:15 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.   Attendees may also bring food to eat.
